Polin Sans: A Multiscript Journey through Polish Modernism

In contemplating the design of a type family, my vision crystallized into Polin Sans—a tribute to both modernist aesthetics exemplified by Władysław Strzemiński's "a.r." and the multiscript pre-war Warsaw. The genesis of this idea took root as I delved into geometric Cyrillic variants, drawing inspiration from "Towards an open layout: A letter to Volodya Yefimov." Intriguingly, circular forms, synonymous with the Bulgarian Cyrillic, seamlessly integrated into the classical version without disrupting readability.

During my exploration on typoteka.pl, the Hebrew typeface Jaffa, akin to the Hebrew "a.r.," captivated me. Collaborating with Ben Nathan from Israel, we expanded the multiscript family to include Greek and Vietnamese. Thus, Polin Sans became a historical odyssey, celebrating the intricacies of Polish modernism shaped by diverse cultural influences.

Designed by Mateusz Machalski and Ben Nathan, with the invaluable support of Michał Gorczyca and Małgorzata Bartosik, Polin Sans embodies a harmonious fusion of cultural narratives, encapsulated in the eloquence of type.
